Assistance for Vision Kitchens workers at the Gold Coast
13 December 2007
Minister for Human Services, Joseph Ludwig, is encouraging Vision Kitchens workers to contact Centrelink today, after this morning’s announcement of the company’s closure.
“This announcement was obviously unexpected and the Australian Government through Centrelink will be doing all it can to offer assistance to affected workers,” said Senator Ludwig.
"This is clearly a tough time for workers and their families and we will be doing all we can to offer assistance,” he said.
“I strongly encourage workers to contact Centrelink as soon as possible to discuss their individual situations.”
“The sooner workers contact Centrelink, the sooner staff will be able to assess their eligibility for payments.”
"Centrelink staff will discuss worker’s personal circumstances with them and the different assistance and support they can draw upon during this tough time.”
Senator Ludwig said Centrelink can also link workers with local Job Network providers, so they can start looking for other employment.
"Centrelink staff are very experienced in handling these types of situations and understand how stressful this time can be for affected workers and their families.”
“If workers are being paid leave or other entitlements, there may be a waiting period for Centrelink payments. This is why the most important thing workers can do is call Centrelink to discuss their circumstances.”
Workers should call Centrelink on 13 2850 or visit their local Centrelink Customer Service Centre, located at Southport (15 Suter St), Nerang (Corner of Cotton & White Streets), or Biggera Waters (95 Brisbane Rd).
