Information sessions for Vision Kitchens workers at the Gold Coast

19 December 2007

Minister for Human Services, Joe Ludwig, is urging workers affected by the sudden closure of Vision Kitchens last week to attend two special Centrelink information sessions this Thursday 20 December.

“This is obviously an extraordinarily difficult time for workers, especially so close to Christmas,” Senator Ludwig said.

“Many workers have already contacted Centrelink for assistance, but I’m concerned there are still some people out there who have not asked for help.

“For this reason, the Australian Government through Centrelink will be holding two information sessions at Nerang and Biggera Waters on Thursday morning to assist workers affected by the closure and to help them and their families plan for the future.”

“Centrelink staff will talk to workers and discuss what options are available to them, including how to start looking for other employment.”

Senator Ludwig said local Job Network providers will also attend the information sessions to discuss job opportunities with workers.

“I’m heartened to hear some workers have already found employment,” Senator Ludwig said.

“But for the majority of workers and their families, I appreciate that this is clearly a tough time and the Australian Government through Centrelink will be doing all it can to offer assistance.

“While Vision Kitchens workers can contact Centrelink at any time, I’d strongly encourage them to attend one of these information sessions.”

“Centrelink Social Workers will also be on hand at the sessions for workers who may be feeling overwhelmed.”
