Centrelink support available to Raptis Group workers

Minister for Human Services, Senator Joe Ludwig, said Centrelink can offer support to workers affected by the collapse of the Raptis Group.

“This can be a really hard time for workers and their families and I encourage them to contact Centrelink to see what support is available,” Senator Ludwig said.

Receivers have been appointed to the Gold Coast property developer, impacting on approximately 200 workers at the company’s Southport site.

“With receivers appointed to Raptis Group, employees face an uncertain future,” Senator Ludwig said.

“I would encourage those affected to speak to Centrelink about the help it may be able to provide.”

Senator Ludwig said Centrelink has already been in contact with the company with an offer of support and assistance and will continue to closely monitor the situation.

“Centrelink works closely with communities during these situations to ensure those affected understand what options may be available to them,” he said.

“I encourage people not to rule themselves out of assistance before discussing their individual circumstances with a Centrelink staff member.”

“Workers who’ve lost their jobs may be eligible for various income support payments such as Newstart Allowance, low income health care cards or family payments.”

Senator Ludwig said Centrelink also offers a number of free services that may also be useful.

“Centrelink’s Financial Information Service provides independent information on a range of topics, including eligibility for income support assistance and how retrenchment payouts or investments can affect Centrelink payments,” he said.

“We can also put people in touch with social workers to support help them through what can be a very difficult time.”

Affected workers can access these services from Centrelink by calling 13 2850, or visiting a Customer Service Centre to discuss their individual circumstances.
