Centrelink working to deliver bonus payments to Australians

The Minister for Human Services, Senator Joe Ludwig, today said Centrelink is working hard to deliver the bonus payments contained in the Rudd Government’s Economic Security Package.

“Since the Prime Minister’s announcement, Centrelink has received thousands of calls about the package.”

“I’d like to remind customers they don’t have to contact Centrelink to receive these one-off payments.”

“Centrelink will be assessing people’s eligibility automatically, based on the information on customer records.”

Senator Ludwig said the $8.7 billion dollars in one-off payments will all be paid in the fortnight beginning December 8, with payments completed by December 19.

“The agency will deliver these payments directly into the bank accounts of around six million Australians over this two-week period.”

“As Minister for Human Services, I’m very aware of the increasing financial pressures millions of families, seniors, carers and people with disabilities are facing.”

“The financial crisis support package announced by the Prime Minister and Treasurer will provide immediate financial support to millions of low and middle income earners.”

“Centrelink is well versed in delivering one-off payments and expects all six million eligible Australians to receive their bonus as scheduled,” Senator Ludwig said.
