Medicare Australia to join Centrelink in Emerald
Residents in Emerald and the surrounding region will soon have access to a range of services from Medicare Australia.
Minister for Human Services, Senator Joe Ludwig, said Medicare Australia will co-locate with the existing Centrelink office at Wide Bay Capricorn House, 50 Borilla Street, Emerald.
“From 1 December 2008, local residents will have better access to Centrelink and Medicare Australia services, delivering on the Government’s commitment to increasing accessibility of services for all Australians,” Senator Ludwig said.
“The co-location of these agencies will make it easier and more convenient for people to receive the assistance they need.”
“The new Medicare Australia office will give customers access to a range of non-cash related services, including enrolling in Medicare, submitting claims and updating their personal details.”
“Residents will also have the option of making a claim through electronic funds transfer or cheque.”
Member for Flynn, Chris Trevor MP, said he was pleased to see that his pre-election commitment to the Emerald community was being met.
“This was a pre-election commitment that I announced for the Emerald community and now it is being delivered by the Rudd Labor Government so this is wonderful news for the community,” Mr Trevor said.
Locals can learn more about the new office at a Community Information Session on Thursday 20 November.
“This is a great opportunity for people in my electorate to meet their new Medicare Australia staff and find out more about the range of services on offer,” Mr Trevor said.
“I have no doubt that we will see many people making use of Medicare Australia’s services once the co-located office commences operations.”
