Media Release: Medicare and Centrelink services to be maintained in Kingston

19 February 2016

The Hon Alan Tudge MP

Minister for Human Services

The Medicare and Centrelink services currently operating from the Kingston Service Centre will be delivered from inside the Tasmanian State Government’s Service Tasmania outlet in Kingston.

This arrangement means existing Medicare and Centrelink services for residents will be maintained but relocated to the existing Service Tasmania outlet approximately 350 metres away.

Moving the Medicare and Centrelink desks to be co-located with Service Tasmania will result in no change to the service offering, but will provide significant savings to taxpayers.

I thank the Premier, the Hon Will Hodgman MP, and his government for their cooperation in facilitating this arrangement.

The new arrangement will take effect before the end of June. The existing Medicare and Centrelink services at the Kingston Service Centre will be maintained until the new arrangements are in place, ensuring no service gap for local residents.

I also acknowledge the strong representations made by the Tasmanian Liberal Senate team of Senator Eric Abetz and candidate Jonathon Duniam together with the Liberal candidate for Franklin, Amanda-Sue Markham, in ensuring these services are maintained.

The Kingston Service Tasmania shop front is located at Shop 87a, 27 Channel Highway, Kingston and is open from 9am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
